Dr Paul Davies is a dental implant, complex dentistry and IV sedation specialist based at Moody Terrace Dental Practice in Congleton, Cheshire, with 15+ years of experience and patients who travel hundreds of miles to see him. Despite that reputation, he had never had a website of his own. He'd tried to build one on Squarespace and kept running into the same wall: it looked like everyone else's, and it couldn't do the things he actually wanted it to do.
The brief
Paul's work is life-changing, and the results speak for themselves, but none of it existed online in his own name. Patients found him through word of mouth and through the practice, which meant his reputation was doing all the heavy lifting and nothing was capturing the people quietly researching implants at 11pm.
He'd started on Squarespace and abandoned it. The templates fought him on layout, the before & after photography looked flat in a stock gallery, and the enquiry form was the same three boxes every dentist has. What he wanted, an emotive, high-end feel and a genuinely interactive way for nervous patients to open up, simply wasn't on the menu.
The brief we landed on: a warm, premium single-page site that leads with the human story rather than the clinical detail, shows real transformations properly, and gives an anxious visitor a low-pressure way to make first contact.
My approach
I designed and built the whole thing in Next.js and Tailwind, in a soft teal-and-gold palette with a Cormorant Garamond serif for headings. It opens on “Every Smile Has a Story”, then a “Does This Sound Familiar?” section that names the things patients actually feel, before it ever mentions a treatment. Everything is written in Paul's first-person voice.
A chat questionnaire that does the asking
This is the feature Paul loves most, and the one Squarespace was never going to give him. Instead of a contact form, a chat panel opens with Paul's own photo and introduces itself in his voice, then walks the visitor through a short conversation.
- Guided, not interrogated: tappable options for what they're looking for, their main concerns (loose dentures, failing teeth, hiding their smile) and their timeline, so there's no blank box to stare at
- Written the way he speaks: typing indicators and staged replies make it feel like a real conversation rather than a form with a chat skin
- Multi-select concerns: patients can flag everything that's bothering them, which is usually more than one thing
- Pre-qualified enquiries: the whole conversation arrives as one structured email, so Paul knows the treatment, the worries and the urgency before he calls back
- Opens itself once per visit: a gentle nudge a few seconds in, then it stays out of the way
Before & after, shown properly
- Full-face transformations presented side by side at full width, the emotional centrepiece of the site
- A drag-to-compare slider for close-up cases, so visitors can pull the handle across and see the detail change under their own hand
- A paged carousel of implant, veneer, ceramic and full-mouth cases, all from Paul's own patients
- Built custom because no template gallery handled clinical before & after work without making it look like stock photography
Credibility, on the page and in search
- Treatments explained in plain English: full-arch same-day implants, single and multiple implants, repairs and revisions, and IV sedation for anxious patients
- His real five-star Google reviews woven through the page, including the patient who makes a 200-mile round trip
- Full Dentist schema markup with practice address, specialisms and aggregate rating, so Google understands exactly who he is and what he does
- Fast, mobile-first and accessible, with subtle scroll reveals instead of heavy animation, and enquiries delivered straight to his inbox via Resend
Outcomes
- A first proper website for a specialist who had never had one, built to his brief rather than a template
- A conversational chat questionnaire that guides visitors through to a qualified enquiry
- Enquiries arrive pre-qualified: treatment, concerns, timeline and contact details, all in one email
- Drag-to-compare before & after galleries showcasing real patient transformations
- Rich Dentist schema and Google review integration for a credible search presence from day one
