Support Link Housing CIC is a Birmingham community interest company helping young people aged 18–25 make the move from care to living independently, with safe accommodation and the day-to-day support to thrive in it. Launching fresh, they needed a website that felt trustworthy from day one and made referring a young person genuinely easy.
The brief
A brand-new CIC working with vulnerable young people has to earn trust instantly. Social workers, personal advisors and local authorities decide in seconds whether an organisation looks credible enough to place someone with. The site needed to feel warm, calm and professional, not like a startup or a template.
The other half of the brief was operational. Support Link Housing take referrals from lots of directions, self-referrals, social workers, colleges, charities and local authorities, and each referral carries a lot of sensitive detail: funding route, benefits, background and wellbeing. They wanted all of that captured in one place and delivered straight to their inbox, with no portal to log into and no information lost.
My approach
I designed and hand-coded the whole site in Next.js as a calm, single-page experience: a clear hero, an honest About section, a simple three-step process, the services on offer, and the referral form, all on a clean white background with the brand's deep-teal identity.
A brand that earns trust on first glance
- A warm, fully responsive design built around the organisation's deep-teal brand colour and generous, readable layouts
- Plain-English copy throughout, written for busy referrers and the young people being placed, with no sector jargon
- A clear “how it works” flow, Refer, Match, Move in, so referrers know exactly what happens and how long it takes
A referral form that does the heavy lifting
The centrepiece is a detailed, multi-section referral form that gathers everything the team needs in one pass, then emails it straight through.
- Structured in three sections: about the referrer, about the young person, and background & wellbeing, so nothing important is missed
- Sensitive detail handled with care: funding route, benefits claimed, criminal history, mental health and medical history, all with sensible options and “prefer not to say”
- Delivered straight to the inbox: submissions are emailed directly to the team via Resend, with no portal to manage and no leads sitting in a dashboard
- Spam-resistant: a honeypot quietly filters out bots without adding friction for real referrers
Easy to reach, on any device
- A floating WhatsApp button on mobile and desktop, plus click-to-call and email links throughout
- A clear promise, front and centre: every referral acknowledged within one working day, even when a placement isn't the right fit
- Fast, accessible and SEO-clean, ready to grow as the organisation expands across the West Midlands
Outcomes
- A warm, credible online presence for a brand-new community interest company
- A detailed, multi-section referral form that emails referrals straight to the team
- Self-referrals and professional referrals handled in one clear, no-jargon flow
- Click-to-call and WhatsApp contact on every device
- Spam-resistant, with every referral acknowledged within one working day
